Are you a blogger/web designer/advertising professional who wants good quality stock images to use in your blog/website/advertisement?

Here are some good resources of free stock images on the web

1. WWW.SXC.HU

Learn this name www.sxc.hu, which does not sounds like a website, but it is a very BIG name in the circle of digital media houses and web designers.

SXC.HU is the Biggest, Oldest and the Best resource of free stock images with no strings or money attached for usage. You can use the images anyway you want both for print and web for unlimited time.

In fact in this blog I have used images that are sourced from the community of  SXC It is definitely the most trust able and rewarding source of images for your site.

Please read this article[link] to know how to find images you can use for free without attribution of the owner’s name from SXC.

2. Flickr
A photo sharing website by Yahoo, is a youtube for images, people come here and upload images to share in the community, while most of the images do retain the original rights but some are published under Creative Commons licences which allow you to use the image for free while some other conditions depending upon the type of Creative Commons licence that it is uploaded to.

Not all images on flickr could be used for commercial projects, only the images that are posted by the owner under creative commons licences are intend to do so, moreover a type of licence which would allow you to either use/modify/notify the owner prior to the usage, obviously it is not as convenient as SXC, but the benefit with flickr has a more vast never-ending collection of images on it, so you might consider this option if you run short of images of the topic you want on SXC.

3 Wikipedia:
Wikipedia the free online encyclopedia has articles related with all the topics in thr world! anyone can create or edit them and upload images to make the content more relevant.

Images are uploaded by the contributors. The licence of the content both the text and images is GNU (General User Public licence), which basically means that you can use the image, modify it, adapt it but cannot sell the image for directly monitary benefits.

You can also download the wikipedia[linknew] and keep a dump on your hard disk for a quick thumbnail view and search the image without internet connection.

4. www.Archive.org[link]
Archive.org is very similar to wikipedia, it has all the public domain content [what is public domain content]- images, videos, music all for free, you can not only use the content in your commercial project you can even re-sell the media types directly.

PS:
Please note that while these images are free to use, it means that you can only use these images in works that you don’t intend to sell, for monetary benefit.

Moreover these images can’t be a perfect alternative to a purchased image,as these sites takes no responsibility for the authentication of the permission of the usage of image and the rights and model release. While the chances of breach are quite less as the images that are up on these sites are possibly legal and legitimate the chances of you getting sued for copyright is almost negligible.
