In the digital world, you can not only create music on the computer(without any instrument) but also sell it online by various means.

Here are some of the best ways to make money selling and promotion of your music:

  1. oomix
oomix is social media networking for music. It is a place where you can create, mix and master the tracks with the help of people in the community!

You can not only create those tracks but also sell them through oomix shop. Great way to make money especially for people who like to work in a group!

  2. Myspace
The most popular social networking site in the US, if have a band which you want to promote. You should seriously look forward to create an account and upload your work on Myspace.

You can get a lot of exposure for your work. And probably new projects.

  3. Jamendo
You can have your album listed on this site for free. People can listen and download your songs based on creative commons licence.

You can even get paid if someone wants to use your work for commercial purposes and through donations.

  4. Garageband.com (not the Apple’s music sequencer) is similar to Jamendo. You can upload your songs. Have them downloaded.

Garageband has got a good collection of various themes and styles of music. Also if your music is good you can get good exposure if you win any of their online weekly contests.

  5. Youtube
Everyday people come to listen songs on youtube. As i discussed in my previous post. YouTube can be used to reach to the masses.

If your work is exceptionally well, you can open up many opportunities through YouTube and realise your potential!

A tip on Copyright issue:
One question that comes into the mind of many music enthusiasts is “How do we protect our art work through copyright?“. Your concern as a musician is obvious. I will give you a simple way to do that- “upload your music in any of your email service” and that’s it! You have registered your art work!

Let me explain… it further… you become the owner of any artwork as soon as you create it! So you don’t need to spend a lot of money to register a copyright at any authority or government (necessarily).

All you need is a proof that you created that music on so and so date.

So if in case you find out that someone is using your work, you can show your mailbox that you had it first! Hence it could easily be proved that it was originally created by you!
