If you submit your site you will:

• Get more incoming links to your site
• Increases your site’s score and Page Rank.
• You get more traffic.

However, many dir on the web are free. There is a big “directory market” flourishing on forums and other meeting places online.

If you need to “buy a link” in these markets, be ready to spend anything from $10 to $300, (Depending on the Page rank of the linking page)

Is it worth spending so much for one single link?
The best of the directories on the web, are for free. So you should not waste your money until it is really required. One single link is not going to make a very big difference.

Free Directories

So free, so good.

But never apply for a link, if the site has no page rank. Check the quality of links present. List only if you think it is related to your business and is not just selling links.

Categorize your site well
Technology blog should come under technology section. Try to place your link, in the category which is same or related to your topic.

Reciprocal links?
Place a link of the directory in return only if you think it’s relevant. Or your site may get penalized. Avoid link-exchange as far as possible.

  It is one of the oldest and the best. If you can list your site here. It would equal to 100 links from average directories.

  The best part is that it is free, but it takes more time.

• Yahoo
  The next biggie after DMOZ. If you are not selling anything on your website. You can list your site for free here.
• Lycos Directory Popular in UK and Europe.

Partly Free

• Gimpsy- it’s free if you can wait for 21 days, or pay 40$ for instant listing.

• GoGuides- free if you offer editorial services.
• Skaffe - same as GoGuide.

Paid Ones

• Business.com
  Consider this directory, if you look forward to increase business, sales or services. It has many regular users who refer to it for search of products and services. And you will also get an inbound link.

• Wow Directory -
  Bruce Stone’s directory. Offers free inclusion, paid inclusion, and sponsorship opportunities. Highly recommended
  
  
• Yahoo
  $299 annual fee only for commercial sites.
