How to start your own forum for free
Sponsored links
I have been hosting my blogs on Blogspot as it is free. I was searching for a way to create a forum for free. (After just getting the .com/.info domain name)
Here is a step by step guide to make it up and running:
- Go to www.110mb.com and create a free hosting account. Yes! it is completely free and never show any ads on the site.
The only downside is that they have a limitation on bandwidth. But won’t be an issue if you have a new forum.
Once you start getting more users on the forum you can always upgrade to higher bandwidth plans.
- Go to your account settings in 110mb.com and click on control panel
- Here you will have a link to fantastico. This is basically a management system using which you can set up your own forum.
- Click on Fantastico and go to admin area. And Choose PHPBB forum (PHPbb is the most popular one, you may also choose simple machines which is nice too!)
- Click on install and you are half way done!
- Now go to Godaddy.com and register a domain (I love Godaddy, it’s easy and cheap)
- Once you are done with buying a domain name go into it’s control panel and look for “Total DNS Control and MX Records”
- Now you need to go to Cname records.
- Now go back to your 118mb.com hosting account and find your hosting IP address.
- Put this IP address in the @local cname record.
- Now wait for 48 hours and things will set up in that time!
